June 29^th we’ll be having a beer blow out sale with all of the extra beer from Benson Beerfest.   That’s  right, all of that delicious beer that wasn’t pour you get to purchase at an extremely discounted price (at cost or less!). The Waiting Room is gracious enough to host the event, which will start at noon!

In case you didn’t know we’ve started to host Whiskey Wednesdays! Each week we highlight a different whiskey and there’s usually a discounted price, or some perk to getting this whiskey.  Dylan, our whiskey go-to-guy, is here to answer any questions you have about that weeks whiskey!

 For Friday’s tapping this week (June 14^th) we will be tapping a Dry Hopped Saison Dupont.  Thanks to Beeradvocate.com here’s a little bit of info for you.

Appearance: Hazy gold. Small white froth that sticks around.

Smell: Bright saison yeast aroma, very fresh and floral with a tinge of citrus fruit. Not much to say about it, as it is not complex–but it’s full and powerful, like a very aromatic flower. It’s great.

Taste: Tastes even better than it smells. Spot on juicy, succulent mouthfeel is the perfect delivery vessel for these clean saison yeast and peachy hop flavors. A divine beer for hot weather.

Mouthfeel: Perfect. Very succulent, slight dryness at the end, moderate carbonation. Really couldn’t be better.

Overall: Saison Dupont is widely regarded as the standard-setting saison, and this incarnation of it reinforces that reputation. I’ve had a lot of great “It’s hot, I just stopped into a bar, and holy shit this is just the beer I needed!” moments in my life, and Saison Dupont Cuvee Dry Hop provided me another one, and one of the best.

For you cigar smokers we have a few new staff favorites!

Pardon 3000 Maduro: The 3000 Maduro is not a flashy cigar that comes draped in elegant bands. Rather, it has an unassuming appearance that is nearly flawless. There are hardly any veins visible, and it seems to be very smooth in its square-pressed shape. The Maduro wrapper is dark and oily, and the cigar subliminally reminds me of a dark chocolate bar. A simple band sits near the head with the Padron name and logo. The cigar feels very firm to the touch, indicating that it is well-packed with tobacco. Hopefully, this does not foreshadow a tight draw. Before lighting, there is a rich taste of coffee, while the aroma is earthy.

The solid appearance and construction of the 3000 Maduro follows through in its excellent burn. The burn stays even throughout, making touch-ups unnecessary. It also stays lit until the very end. The ash hangs on for over an inch and is white in color. The highlight of the burn is its superb draw, putting to rest my fears that it would be too tight during the pre-light inspection.

Camacho Connecticut: Devoid of much resemblance to Connecticut tobacco, the first half inch sports a lot of that Camacho punch, including flavors of black pepper, dry wood, and plenty of spice. Not overwhelming, but definitely attention-grabbing.

Then, as the cigar comes into its own, some of the tastes you’d expect—including cream, hay, and almond—join in to add complexity and smoothness. The interplay between the lighter wrapper and the heavier binder and filler tobaccos is the defining characteristic of this blend. As the even burn progresses and the tight ash builds off the foot, the spice slowly re-builds without overcoming the softer tones.

Drew Estate Under Crown Belicoso: Many are quick to compare the Undercrown line, which debuted about a year ago, to Drew Estate’s famed Liga Privada No. 9 blend. I understand the interest in comparing the two but, the more I smoke it, the more I find Undercrown to be an excellent creation in its own right. The Belicoso (6 x 52) is no exception. It boasts a balanced, medium-bodied profile of coffee, peanut, spice, and mocha along with superb physical properties.

• Locate 16oz can of PBR (aka tallboy)
• Pick up said can
• Open the can via flip top mechanism
• Place on bartop with open end UP (preferably within reach of customer)
• Locate Jameson Irish Whiskey bottle
• Pick up said bottle
• Locate a shot glass
• Pick up said glass
• Set glass on bartop
• Fill shot glass with aforementioned Jameson Irish Whiskey
• Present to customer (again, ideal placement is within reach of customer)
• Find a tack hammer and hit yourself gently (not too gently) in the head. It may shake a few IQ points loose.

To begin with we just got in Mountain Huckleberry Vodka from 44° North out of Idaho.
This vodka is the first vodka approved to wear the Idaho Potato Commission’s official seal, 44° North Mountain Huckleberry Flavored Vodka is the standard in Idaho potato vodkas. It is an ideal spirit for drinking chilled, straight-up, on the rocks, or in an infinite range of signature cocktails.

44º North Mountain Huckleberry Flavored Vodka is distilled from 100% Idaho Potatoes, blended with Rocky Mountain Water from the Snake River Aquifer, and then infused in our proprietary blend of all natural Huckleberries.

Try this vodka with lemonade for a refreshing and easy (perhaps too easy) drink!

On cask we are pouring Empyrean’s Watchman IPA with Pineapple and Hibiscus.  The Watchman is a wonderful beer on its own, but it’s a rather remarkable beer after the brew masters decided to add pineapple and hibiscus into it! Come try it while it lasts!

Also from Empyrean we have in their Black Lager.  It’s also an easy drinking beer.  This is one that won’t last long! So come drink it while you can!

On Friday May 10^th (so today…) we’re tapping Squatters Apricot Hefe.  It is exclusive to Beercade and us! You won’t find this beer anywhere else, not even at the brewery itself!  Squatters puts out some of the best beer so it is rare that we keep it on tap for long.  Come to Jake’s and enjoy your Friday night with this Apricot Hefe.

On both retail and bar sides we just got in all of High West’s whiskey! Thank you to all who came down for the tasting! I hope you enjoyed yourselves.  For those of  you whom couldn’t make it, we have all of their whiskey on, try it at the bar and if you like it buy a bottle to take home with you!

On retail side we just got in Weyerbacher’s Riserva.  This is an American Wild Ale… If you don’t know what a wild ale you’re not alone! I just looked it up.  A wild ale is a beer that is introduced to “wild” yeast or bacteria.  If you want more info on an American Wild Ale beeradvocate has some info on it. —Anyways, back to the beer! It is an Oak aged raspberry ale.  Sounds pretty tasty to me! And at 11.4% a.b.v. HECK YES!
